An extraordinary, highly ornamented antique bronze drum.
Around the 12-rayed star in the centre with butterfly motifs between the "sunrays", friezes of figured scenes can be found, probably warriors with feather dresses, stylised flying birds, fishes and other geometric symbols.
The resonance case shows horizontal lines with stripes and circular patterns.
A pair of loop handles on each side of the drum are decorated with cord ornaments.
Partly the ornaments has been worn from the use over the centuries.
condition: damages on the lower rim, crack on one of the handles, smooth surface with some encrustations, superb natural patina
provenance: German collection, acquired before 1927 in Tungkun, Canton province or between 1927 and 1939 in Bangkok

An embossed bronze rain drum from Laos or Yunnan.
Good condition with 3 small cracks of the bottom edge and one partial damage of the edge of the tympanum
Roxanna Brown explained the occasional damage with an ancient Laotian custom: When the owner of the drum passed away, the family break off a fragment of the drum to bury the drum with the owner symbolically.

Antique reliquary vessel, bronze
Southeast Asia, 19th c. or earlier
size: 62 mm d x 34 mm h (40 mm height incl. feet), mouth 20 mm diameter
Suspended on a chain, lid missing. The small vessel stands on three feet and has an attractive form. The bronze surface shows remnants of lacquer coating and rich dark patina.
Three beautiful carved eyelets for the chain.
