16-1-18
No. 16-1-18
Hintha 3B, prior to 1868

weight mass: 1 viss / 100 tical (1'506 g)
height: 111 mm / 4.37 in
base: hexagonal

remarkable: A fraudulent merchant's weight!
Here we have a rare situation that - probably due to a mistake in the foundry process or rather an intended action of a fraudulent merchant - a cavity remained in the body of the bird with a hidden opening to the tail (please see b/w image). As a result of the lack of bronze the weight mass is about 100 g too low: target weight 1'633 g (100 tical), actual weight mass 1'506 g (about 92 tical only).

A collector's curiosity!

Hintha 3B, 1 viss, Burma, 2nd half 19th c.

weight: 1 viss / 100 tical (1'696 g)
height: 118 mm / 4.64 in

The weight is in very good condition with rich traces of black lacquer. Where the extremities are worn, the golden bronze colour emerges, also at the bottom of the base. An interesting, collectible weight.

weight: 50 tical (795 g)
height: 89 mm / 3.5 in
verificationmark: outline of a bird, clear visible

Interestingly each of the big round protruding eyes is decorated with an eyelid. Otherwise the decoration is simple (see wings, base and neck). While the body is compact, there is a greater gap between base and body. In these details the weight is different from common H3B (probably H3A2?). Readjusted with lead. A very few traces of red coating on the base and "third leg".
